Restrictions on Electronic Devices

Restrictions on the Use of Electronic Devices on Board

Use of electronic (or electrical) devices on board may interfere with flight safety. Their use is restricted while on board, including when the aircraft is on the ground. On-board use of electronic devices classified as restricted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is prohibited by law. Violations will incur a fine of up to JPY 500,000.

Devices in a state where radio waves are not emitted when operated
  • TVs
  • Radios
  • Pagers
  • Video cameras
  • Digital cameras
  • DVD / CD / MD / video / digital audio equipment
  • Headphones
  • Earphones
  • Battery-powered IC tags
  • Electronic organizers
  • Electronic dictionaries
  • Printers
  • Word processors
  • Toys (that respond to voice or touch) and medical devices which we have approved in advance

Any of the above that do not emit radio waves when operated

  • Cell phones (including smartphones)
  • Pocket Wi-Fi devices
  • Personal Handyphone Systems (PHS)
  • Radio-controlled toys
  • Personal computers
  • Wireless microphones
  • Transceivers
  • Electronic game consoles
  • Personal digital assistants (PDA)
  • * Devices that communicate wirelessly (via Bluetooth) with each other, such as wireless headphones, wireless earphones or wireless mice can be used any time on board.
Times when use is restricted

Prohibited to use once the aircraft doors have closed for departure until the aircraft has taxied off the runway upon landing.

  • *Cabin announcements will be made at the start and end of the restricted times.
  • *A state where no radio waves are emitted means being set to Airplane Mode, where functions that can communicate outside the aircraft are disabled even when the device is switched on.
  • *The captain may impose restrictions on electronic devices for safety reasons.
  • Please be sure to set your devices to not emit radio waves before the doors are closed for departure.
  • Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections between devices, which do not connect to anything outside the aircraft, can be used any time.
  • Wireless communication with external equipment (via Wi-Fi connection) is prohibited. Wi-Fi connections must be between electronic devices only.
  • Please be considerate of other passengers and refrain from making phone calls.
